Worth the Wait

Time is either loved or dreaded depending on the circumstances.  When school starts in August time will be hard to accept, each day, until the 3:15 bell rings for dismissal.  And yet, that time will seem to fly when May comes and I am no longer at Bevier High.

Well I'm sure you are wondering where I am going with this.  Time, this past week, was kind to me and was definitely worth the wait.  My grandma Prokup has always lived very far away from me.  I have had little time with her and on those rare occasions when our families were together, because of my constant fear of the unknown, I kept to myself.  So, time and God were extremely patient with the situation and allowed me to finally make a connection with my grandma.  This past week she seemed to understand me better and I was able to allow her into my world.  We shared not only space but words and experiences.  I am definitely looking forward to time passing quickly to be able to see her again.

Family

What makes a family?  A family whether small or large, is a family because of shared experiences and unconditional acceptance.  Well this past week our house was full of family members of the very large Prokup clan.  My dad has 8 siblings and all but 3 attended the first family reunion at our home.  Every available bed was taken to accommodate the 20 heads that needed a place to rest after a very successful gathering.  A party was planned for not only the reunion but to celebrate the 80th birthday of the head of the clan, my grandpa.  There was food, drink, perfectly decorated cakes by my aunt Linda and to end the evening- a spectacular fireworks display, thanks to my dad.  And so, we, the Prokups, added to our list of shared experiences in order to continue this very large and unique family.
