Dear Moche the Beadle,
What an
ordeal you have experienced I can’t imagine having gone through what you have
endured. As a bystander I have so many
questions. If you are able to answer
them I would appreciate it very much. I
want to understand what you felt while your life was being shattered.
I need
to tell you that you were extremely brave to return to Sighet knowing it was
not safe. You could have gone anywhere,
but your love for them sent you back.
How did you force yourself to do that?
Why didn’t you save yourself?
Isn’t that what most of us would have done? Now are you safe? Or will you ever be safe again? I think not.
You must think about that horrible time in your life on a daily
basis. Do you know what the rest of your
life will bring? Can you forgive and
forget?
We feel
not only sadness but anger for you and the villagers of Sighet. You all tried to be so brave and adapting but
why should anyone adapt to the cruelty shown to the families of your hometown. Going to the camps were bad enough but being
executed for being people of faith is despicable. Our hearts go out to you and we will continue
to pray for you.
